Adding Buttons

http://www.stopbullying.gov/

This link helped me extremely while I was making our game demo.  It gives plenty of facts and statistics about bullying which helped me with the content of our game.  This website gives advice on how to stop bullying in schools, at home, etc...  Adding buttons to our game demo was probably one of the most challenging parts of making our game.  It was confusing at first, but now I have all of them done and working.

Adding Scenes

Having your game tell a story is very imortant. All scenes should be sequential and they should make sense.  The games in the playing to learn section helped us tremendously.  One of the games in particularly, "What Would You Do?", especially helped us in making our game tell a story.  The game was well planned out and wasn't confusing at all.  Hopefully, I'll be able to do the same thing with our game.

A New Concept

We have learned many ideas and facts about are game topic since we started developing our game. One of the things we learned was the statistics on bullying:

  • 1 out of 4 kids is Bullied.  The American Justice Department says that this month 1 out of every 4 kids will be abused by another youth.

  • Surveys Show That  77%  of students are bullied mentally, verbally, & physically.

  • In a recent study, 77% of the students said they had been bullied. And 14% of those who were bullied said they experienced severe (bad) reactions to the abuse.

  • 1 out of 5 kids admits to being a bully, or doing some "Bullying."

  • 8% of students miss 1 day of class per month for fear of Bullies.

  • 43% fear harassment in the bathroom at school.

  • I learned this by researching information for our game on Google. These statistics made things easier for our game because we knew a little bit more about our game idea. These statistics may or may not be trustworthy because numbers change and vary in different areas but it did give us a start for our knowledge of our game topic.

    Planning Your Game

Brent comes up with all the ideas for the game, and looks up information.
Jacey takes Brent's ideas and information, and puts it in the game, and on the websites.

I'm doing the design of the game, and the actual game coding. I'm good at this, because I grew up around design, and I want to be a graphic designer after I get out of school.

I look forward to not having to do everything by myself in the game, so it goes easier.

Deciding who does what. We generally are able to come to an agreement pretty easily.

    Mini Game Project

We finally finished the Mini Game Project, and got it posted to the Wiki. I'm glad to be finally finished with this, because trying to figure out the code and such when nothing was working was beginning to get old. I generally don't ever play games in my free time.

    Progress.

Progression with the mini game project is going well. I've got the carrot moving, and bouncing off the rabbit. Everything works until it comes to putting the score on the game. Then it freezes. My biggest frustration with this class is when the coding is wrong, and it won't let anything work.

    • WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)
Anyone who has been bullied, is being bullied, or is a bully. Or someone who just wants to learn more about bullying.
    • WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)
It will teach the player statistics about bullying, how it affects people, and how to stop it.
    • WHERE does your game happen?
      • Describe the world you will design for your game.
It will basically be like our world. The background will be a child walking to their house from school.
      • How will this setting add to the learning experience?
It will make it better for the learning experience, because it relates to the the real world, nowdays.
    • HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
      • What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
The player has to avoid the bullies, and if the they happen to run into one, they have to answer a bully statistic question.
      • How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
They can use the information to try and avoid the bullies even more, because they don't want to run into them, and cause bullying.
    • WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?
Because the game has actions, that can make it more fun to learn about bullying, than just going through and answering questions.

    Game Topic, reposted.

I'm Jacey. I'm a cheerleader and sophmore in high school. Ever since I was born, animals have been in my life and I am definitely an animal person. I think anyone who hurts an animal should be put in jail. I'm a very opinionated person, especially when it comes to the safety of people and animals. So that is why I chose my topic to be Animal Abuse Prevention. I think it will be a good thing for people to learn about.

Okay, so I ended up changing groups and topics. Now it's on bully prevention. So, our game will basically be about learning bullying statistics, and avoiding bullies.

    Mini Game Project

Yesterday we finally began the mini game project. I'm glad we've finally started it, so we have something else to do.
Normally, all we do is blog and update our learning log, because of other people having to catch up with the rest of us.

    BrainPop Videos

I learned from the BrainPop videos that you need to be careful on the internet, because although it's somewhat safe, there are still dangers. Blogging can be a way to show off some of your work or keep a diary on the internet. Some are also  informational, and are about one specific topic. Some people check blogs to openings for new voices. I'm just going to continue to try and remember to update the learning log.

    Christmas Break

Christmas break was pretty crazy. I was in Charleston at my dad's Christmas day through Wednesday, and spent the rest of the time in Fayetteville. Christmas was pretty good, I got alot of nice things, but the biggest gift I got this holiday season was the happiness I saw from my grandma when I gave her the portrait I did of my grandpa. It was the greatest thing that could have happened.

Other than that, I spent time with friends, and family.
